Terms of Service

Plain language, no legalese tricks. These terms govern your use of Scrybapp. Last updated: March 2026.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Scrybapp ("the Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not download, install, or use the Software.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User", "you", or "your") and Scrybapp ("we", "us", or "our") regarding your use of the Scrybapp application for macOS and any related services.

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Software or on our website at scrybapp.com. Your continued use of the Software after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

2. License Terms

2.1 Lifetime License

Upon purchase of a Scrybapp license, you are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual license to use the Software on up to three (3) Mac computers that you own or control. "Perpetual" means the license does not expire and is valid for the lifetime of the Software. There are no recurring fees, no subscription renewals, and no additional charges for updates released during the active development period of the current major version.

2.2 Device Activations

Each license key permits activation on a maximum of three (3) macOS devices. An "activation" occurs when you enter your license key into the Scrybapp application on a Mac. If you need to transfer your license to a new device, you may deactivate it on your current device to free up an activation slot. If you encounter issues with activations (for example, after replacing a Mac), contact our support team and we will assist you in resetting your activations.

2.3 License Restrictions

You may not: (a) redistribute, resell, lease, sublicense, or otherwise transfer the Software or your license key to any third party; (b) modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the extent permitted by applicable law; (c) remove or alter any proprietary notices, labels, or marks on the Software; (d) use the Software for any purpose that violates applicable laws or regulations; or (e) share your license key publicly or make it available for others to use.

2.4 Updates and New Versions

Your lifetime license includes all updates to the current major version of Scrybapp at no additional cost. We aim to provide ongoing improvements, bug fixes, and new features as part of your purchase. If a significant new major version is released in the future with substantially different features, existing license holders may be offered an upgrade at a discounted rate, but will retain full access to the version they purchased.

3. Free Trial

Scrybapp offers a free trial that provides three (3) minutes of cumulative transcription time. The trial begins when you first use the transcription feature and the three minutes are measured as actual transcription time (when the Software is actively converting speech to text), not elapsed calendar time.

The free trial requires no account creation, no email address, no credit card, and no personal information of any kind. It is designed to let you evaluate the Software's accuracy, speed, and compatibility with your workflow before making a purchase decision.

Once your three minutes of trial transcription time are exhausted, you will need to purchase a lifetime license to continue using the Software's transcription features. All other features of the application remain accessible for inspection purposes.

4. Purchase and Payment

Scrybapp is available for a one-time payment of the price listed on our website at the time of purchase (currently 39 EUR). All prices are displayed inclusive of applicable taxes unless otherwise stated. Payment processing is handled by our authorized third-party payment processor. We do not directly store or process your payment card information.

Upon successful payment, you will receive a license key via the email address provided during the purchase process. This license key is your proof of purchase and your means of activating the full version of the Software. Keep your license key in a safe place. If you lose it, contact us at the email associated with your purchase and we will resend it.

5. Refund Policy

We want you to be satisfied with Scrybapp. If the Software does not work as expected on your Mac, you may request a full refund within fourteen (14) days of your purchase date. Refund requests should be submitted via email to our support address with your license key or purchase confirmation.

We process refunds promptly, typically within 5-10 business days. Upon refund, your license key will be deactivated and you should uninstall the Software from your devices.

We provide a free trial specifically so you can evaluate the Software before purchasing. We encourage all users to take advantage of the trial to confirm that Scrybapp meets their needs. Refund requests made after the 14-day period will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

6. Privacy and Data

Scrybapp processes all speech-to-text transcription locally on your Mac. No audio data, transcription text, or usage information is transmitted to our servers or any third party. For a detailed explanation of our privacy practices, please refer to our Privacy Policy.

The only network communication the Software makes is a one-time license key validation during activation. This validation transmits only your license key and does not include any personal data, audio data, transcription content, or device information beyond what is necessary to verify the license.

7. Intellectual Property

The Scrybapp application, including its design, user interface, code, documentation, and branding, is the intellectual property of Scrybapp and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Your purchase of a license grants you the right to use the Software; it does not transfer ownership of the Software or any intellectual property rights to you.

The Whisper AI model used within Scrybapp is developed by OpenAI and released under the MIT License. Scrybapp's use of Whisper complies with the terms of that license. The open-source components used in Scrybapp are credited and their respective licenses are respected.

All text, transcriptions, and content you create using Scrybapp belong entirely to you. We claim no rights, ownership, or license over any content generated through your use of the Software. Your words are yours.

8. Disclaimers

The Software is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.

Speech-to-text transcription accuracy depends on many factors including microphone quality, ambient noise, speaking clarity, and the AI model selected. While Scrybapp strives for high accuracy using the Whisper AI model, we do not guarantee perfect transcription. Users should review transcribed text for accuracy, especially in professional or legal contexts where errors could have significant consequences.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Scrybapp and its developers, officers, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, or use, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Software, regardless of the cause of action or the theory of liability, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

In no event shall our total cumulative liability to you for all claims arising from or related to the Software exceed the amount you paid for your Scrybapp license. This limitation applies regardless of whether the liability is based on contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, or any other legal theory.

10. Termination

Your license to use Scrybapp continues indefinitely unless terminated. We may terminate your license if you materially breach these Terms, including but not limited to: redistributing the Software, sharing your license key publicly, or using the Software for illegal purposes. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the Software and delete all copies from your devices.

You may terminate your use of the Software at any time by uninstalling it from your devices. Termination does not entitle you to a refund unless you are within the 14-day refund period described in Section 5.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the European Union and the applicable laws of the jurisdiction in which Scrybapp operates, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising from or related to these Terms or the Software shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts of the jurisdiction in which Scrybapp is established.

12. System Requirements

Scrybapp requires macOS 12 (Monterey) or later and is compatible with both Apple Silicon and Intel-based Macs. A minimum of 4 GB of RAM is recommended for optimal performance. The Software runs entirely locally and does not require an internet connection for its core transcription functionality.

We recommend checking the download page for the most current system requirements and compatibility information before purchasing.

13. Contact

If you have any questions about these Terms, your license, or the Software, please contact us through our website at scrybapp.com.

For support inquiries, license key recovery, or activation issues, please include your license key or the email address used during purchase so we can assist you efficiently.
